"The Allegory of The Cave"

Summary

The Allegory of The Cave by Plato, is a metaphor that represent the way we perceive reality. This narrative story express how most of people get comfort in their cave getting set up. The cave is a stage of knowledge and believes  than either are false or true. And only few people will take the chance to step out of the cave to investigate and prove the true of their believes and the knowledge they acquired of whatever they were told. Furthermore represents how people get scared of knowing the truth. I believe that "The Allegory of The Cave" represent the way we go through our life acquiring knowledge and true of reality, because a better understanding can make me a better person.

Part 2

Comparing my life to "The Allegory of the Cave" I was chained to my fears and conformist because I waited to long to start college. I'm not chained any more, this year one of my goals was to start college, and  I am  glad because I stared right. I'm not afraid anymore, I'm doing well step by step, it was kind of scared at the beginning because it was new for me but I'm not anymore.  Also asking people before, how hard is college for them didn't help, because most of them told me it was complicated and I used to see them struggling, making me feel insecure about college. Now I'm learning and  seeing things different trough my own experience.
I am improving my English, also I'm learning about business. I'm applying this knowledge on my personal life, because I have a small business and all I learn helps. I know that getting a degree will open doors for my future. Now I'm focus on my Business Administration degree. I feel like the prisoner that escape the cave and saw a different word, by his own discovered that the reality is different. And opening our mind to learn will transform my life for better.

"Individuals in Groups"

    Individuals in Groups.

We all act different when we are in groups. Carol Witz on her article "Individuals in Groups," wrote about  Psychological studies that demonstrate  individuals in groups are less alert during dangerous situations, than an individual alone. Many people have die in front of people without receiving help. Honestly I don't  feel safe being  around of many people. Why? Because I know people in groups feel less responsibility and they will wait till see someone else assisting me in case of danger.

Being alert make me feel secure.  Most of the time I'm alone, in my commute to work, school, therefore I have to be alert about my surround. I keep my cell phone in hand just in case I have to call 911, or any of my family members. Also I learned to be attentive, there is always someone that needs help. It could be a senior citizen crossing the avenue or someone with disabilities. Few days ago I was on my way to work, and a blind woman was trying to cross the avenue, while the light was green. There were people looking at her but no one assisted her. I went close to her and I held her hand and told her to wait. We crossed the avenue together. I felt great to be able to help and she was very grateful. There were people looking at her but no one assisted her.

Some individuals risk their own life to help. There was a good Samaritan killed while trying to help a homeless man being harassed for a group of individuals, in California. Few years ago another good Samaritan was killed in the Bronx, while helping a woman being assault. And we keep hearing this type of news, all have a common factor "a person died trying to help" it doesn't said " a group of individuals." It is easier to count with one person than many.

We feel so confident in groups that we don't pay attention in who needs help. Our responsibility is less. We become careless. In my personal opinion i had been careless person when I was younger. I used to wait for my friend first, to have a reaction. I'm not like that anymore, I think  is part of our maturity too. As we grow we develop our real personality, also we are not surround of many friends as when we were very young. Being helpful is important as part of our develop.

I Know the Truth so Don't bother me with Facts

I Know the Truth, So Don't Bother Me with Facts

In the article " I know the Truth, So Don't Bother Me with Facts," adapted from Jeffrey Kluger, point out how humans have been easily gulled by rumors, beliefs and "flat-out lies."  In a new study realized by R. Kelly Garrett and Erik Nisbet assistant professors at Ohio State University concluded that, first at all is easy to manipulate people beliefs, because is easy to influence on people that don't know the facts or basis of their beliefs.  Secondly a very few percent  will keep their beliefs even if they see a contradictory evidence, because they feel sure about their beliefs. As a matter of fact it could be ego too because none of us like to admit that we could be wrong. As well I think our beliefs play a huge role in how we view our life.

As human been some beliefs are acquired by culture, such as religion, political, superstitions, etc that aren't necessary right. I agree with the author, because most of people change their mind easily, by influence or proofs. As a cosmetologist I have the opportunity to interact with different people and their own beliefs. I had the opportunity to get to know more about their beliefs and it is strange but all  of them assume that they're right even if they are not. For example few of them believe in cutting their hair by the phases of the moon, because they believe that will help their hair to grow faster.  As I know moon has nothing to do with our hair growth system, because this depends in our diet and health.

I think beliefs have a big influence in our life therefore we have to develop  our brain to learn and get knowledge. I know that our beliefs grows with us from childhood because as children we will believe whatever get taught in an early age, we don't even determinate the reason of our beliefs. By my own experience I'll say that I used to be the type of person that easily believed without questioning. But after my brain started developing and getting more knowledge I changed my mind, supporting my beliefs by logic.

As a conclusion,  I think beliefs have a big influence and how we live, what we do, and what kind of life style we have and some cases even our dress code is based on it. In my opinion is good to have beliefs that could be supported by truth or facts. It is easy to believe in whatever you can prove  and whatever you have had. I assumed that as I learn and grow I find out that many of my beliefs will no longer serve me. I free myself of some false beliefs that I was taught.

Hype

Advertising become a very important way to marketing. Sponsor can deliver advertising  trough radio, TV, newspaper, buses, trains, billboards, etc.  Big and small companies use advertising to sell goods and keep customers attention. According to the passage "Hype" by Kalle Lasn advertising took part of our lives consuming our peace of mind. Almost every single space is now a place can be filled with logos or any product message. Even if you drive countryside you will find an enormous billboard announcing any product. Are these business companies or industries doing right using all this advertising to flood our minds? I think is not fear to be invaded of all this advertising.

Some times when I'm driving after a long day at work all I want to do is to listen some good music to relax my mind, so I turn on the radio and after four minutes of music I listen to eight minutes commercials. Some of this commercials are not even appropriate for kids. The same issue happens when I'm watching TV there are more advertising than shows, and some are inappropriate. Online advertising, we all are invaded and we all get tempted to click on that little window that's showing a pair of shoes, cloths, makeup, food or whatever thing that is part of our weakness. And this really can affect us because sometimes we can't afford it making us unhappy.

Commercial made an impact on my life as a child. I could remember asking my mother for some of the stuff that I used to watch on TV. Those toys were stock in my head for a long time. It was around Christmas time so the commercials whats all about toys. I knew that is was kind of impossible to get all I asked for because I have three more siblings. I knew I was giving her extra presion. My personal experience is bad about advertising because that persuasive messages sometimes get stock on my mind. Few years ago I saw a movie it was about a men that got millions selling product for hair loss, weight loss, skin problems, etc. But none of these products were good. He used to have very humble people on his products advertising, to impact people, and make them buy his products. In the movie I saw how people trust this advertising and after they try the product they feel foolish.

I know and I realize that at the end of the day advertising is part of our life. We are living in a very competitive century and commercial advertising had increase steadily. Therefore  this companies are going to do whatever is possible to survive and to get people attention, regardless if they flood our minds, or invade our spaces. But our peace of my is more important than any thing. All this companies should respect our time and space. we need more green spaces less big billboards.
